Literacy Adult EducationEACH One / TEACH One: ADULT LITERACY PROGRAM

In 2015, we developed an adult literacy program called “Each One / Teach One” that was originally conducted at the Victorville City Library. We now provide tutoring services at a variety of locations convenient to both the tutor and student. We hope to expand to a more permanent location soon.

WORDSMITH PRODUCTIONS

This new program has three elements, two of which are still under development:

  1. THEATER ROYALTY LICENSING: We are developing a theater royalty/licensing division to help new playwrights have a platform to handle the licensing of their plays.
  2. EMERGING PLAYWRIGHTS PROGRAM: This new program will support emerging playwrights, starting at the High School level, with a first staging of their plays.
  3. THE WORDSMITHS CLUB: A writers’ group with several components described on a separate link located in the upper right hand corner of our homepage. This element of Wordsmith Productions is up and running! It includes the opportunity to join us in our booth at major book festivals around the country.

WORDSMITH PRODUCTIONS

Our goal is to help new playwrights realize a first staging of their plays, but also to help them with the licensing process. That involves handling the licensing for theaters interested in producing the play, the royalty payments to the author and distribution of the script to the theater. Most big licensing operations have a pretty high bar for new playwrights to quality for their services. We want to change that. And the profits from that enterprise will help fund our Emerging Playwrights Program and other of our nonprofit’s projects.

EMERGING PLAYWRIGHTS PROGRAM: Too many playwrights struggle with getting their plays critiqued and staged. It is a daunting task. Through the generous contributions of sponsors and the profits from our royalty licensing enterprise, we intend to help with producing a weekend showcase for emerging playwrights. This will be both a competitive and a collaborative venture as we need our playwrights to be fully engaged in the marketing and staging of the production. But our nonprofit will underwrite the actual staging.

More information will be provided as we develop the program, so stay tuned! Or email us at info@victorvalleyarts.org.
